COMMISSIONING: 2019

Project Scope

In light of the fine lithology of the soil, use of an SVE vapour extraction system alone would not guarantee the successful achievement of the remediation objectives.

However, the use of SVE was enhanced with a soil heating system designed and installed by the Canadian company McMillan-McGee, which allows volatilizing the chlorinated solvents present (the boiling point of which is around 60°C) so that they can be easily captured by the extraction and treatment system supplied by us.

IT-DSPTM System

The IT-DSPTM (Inductive Thermal Dynamic Stripping Process) System, patented by McMillan-McGee Corporation, is an intensive in-situ environmental remediation method that uses alternating current electricity flow to heat the soil and groundwater to evaporate contaminants.

The electrical resistance of the soil causes heat to build up, resulting in a temperature increase, until water reaches boiling point at depth; then additional energy input causes a phase change, forming steam and removing volatile contaminants.

Once the thermal treatment is activated, the temperature increase is constant at approximately 1°C per day, until the remediation target temperature is reached (about 90°C).

Given the great thermal inertia of the soil , the operation of the extraction plant must be reliable so as to have continuous extraction of the volatilised contaminated vapours. It is also very important to have the correct skilled and competent staff on site to manage the whole process.
