Project Detail

TYPOLOGY: Soil Vapour extraction techonology;
COMMISSIONING: 2020

Project Scope

Geostream secured a contract to remediate a service station with high concentrations of pollutants, primarily BTEX.

The production team designed and manufactured a soil-vapour extraction system with a maximum flow rate of 1,100 m3/h and maximum depression of -300 mbar. The planned average flow rate is above 80 m3/h/well, to recover significant quantities of pollutant mass over a short period.

The plant

The plant had a very compact design and fitted in a 3-m container, with only the active-carbon filters located on the outside. The container was heavily insulated using 100-mm sandwich panels to reduce the influence of the outside temperature and noise emission. This minimised both the use of space and the inconvenience to operators and neighbours, which are always points of conflict in service stations in an urban setting.

Some of the most interesting and novel features include the PLC with a touch-screen panel and remote access, an ATEX air-flow transmitter with Pitot tube, and a heat exchanger with a liquid cooler. The plant contains many control and safety devices despite its small dimensions.
